Grigorios Piperagkas

About

Grigorios Piperagkas was born in 1985 in Ioannina, Greece. He received his Diploma, MEng, in Electrical and Computer Engineering from NTUA in November 2009 and continued with his Master degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Ioannina, until 2012, after a short period of employment in industry. His focus during pre-graduate diploma thesis at NTUA and his research work later at UoI was mainly on applying metaheuristic and evolutionary optimization algorithms to various numerical problems in the field of electrical power systems (NTUA), and supply chain, inventory management and operations research problems (UoI).

During the period of his master studies he had the opportunity to be employed in international research projects, focusing also on simulation-based optimization with applications in intermodal transportation networks for Adriatic ports, in parallel with software development at the UoI. Furthermore, his involvement with research at UoI was an opportunity to work on interesting problems in numerical optimization. Most of his work during this period was published in international conference proceedings and peer-reviewed journals.

During 2014-2015, Grigorios continued with a small-scale local startup company in Ioannina, on performance marketing based on affiliate networks, which later left for employment again in research, at the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas, Thessaloniki, Greece.

At CERTH, during 2015-2017, he was employed on a research and development project for computer vision and robotics as a research associate at the Information Technologies Institute. After a short period of working in industry as a Software Engineer, in 2018, he continued with research in Paris, France, until 2020. At INRIA, he focused on urban-scale participatory systems by leveraging universal social networking and IoT technologies, until the pandemic, when he returned to Greece.

Since December 2021, Grigorios is with CERTH/ITI - Ioannina department, and is involved in projects relevant to participatory systems, smart cities, data spaces for energy communities and on-device Artificial Intelligence.
